I think Brad may have irritated someone down at the pub on Friday night because he was jumped by a group of three people and stabbed three times in the leg as he walked into our street. This morning I was awoken by the sound of a police officer bashing on my door to ask if I had seen or heard anything.
Brad lives in the unit attached to ours and had spent the night at the Kirwan Tavern drinking with his mother Jill. From what the police have established so far, Jill left the Tavern at about 11.45pm and walked home while Brad stayed and drank while chatting to some people that he had just met. At about 3am Brad dialed 000, asked for ambulance emergency services and told them that he had been stabbed. The ambo’s are required to report incidents of this nature to police, the police woman that I spoke to said that Brad’s call had been traced to our house through the mobile network using the triangulation method. Jill had lent her mobile phone to Brad earlier in the night and he used it to call for help.

The blood trail led through his flat to the toilet and to our front door, maybe he had tried to wake us up but our bedrooms are upstairs and he would have to knock loudly to wake anyone up. Even the racket the cops made at our front door didn’t wake Jill although they must have been hitting the door hard because I heard it upstairs with my door closed and over my air-conditioner and fan.
At 3.30am the cops woke me up but they wouldn’t permit me to walk out past my front step because it had been pronounced a crime scene. There was police tape across the front of our house and coppers in plague proportions scoping the place for evidence. The police also asked that I not go to work until the CIB had come to take photos of where my car was parked.
